Fort Hamilton is like no other post in the U.S. Army. Fort Hamilton is embraced by the entire Greater New York City area, largely because of its rich history of providing harbor defense and security to New York City, a major world center of culture and enterprise.
The neighboring communities of Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst and Dyker Heights go out of their way to make the Fort Hamilton community feel at home in south Brooklyn. Bay Ridge, known for its fine restaurants, quaint pubs and shopping areas, is right outside the main gate. The friendly neighborhoods of Dyker Heights and Bensonhurst also border Fort Hamilton, and the other New York City boroughs - Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island and Manhattan - are not far away and offer an adventure of a lifetime. From fine arts to shopping and great indoor and outdoor entertainment, you'll find it all in New York City.

General: If your arrival is New York City Metropolitan Area airports, it is your responsibility to coordinate and complete your travel to Fort Hamilton (see "important numbers" below). Be sure to save all your receipts so that you can make an appropriate travel claim when you in-process the installation. Below is listed some general information that may assist you in your travel decisions:
Shuttle Service: Airport shuttle service to Fort Hamilton is limited and expensive. On average, costs can exceed $125. Plan ahead and contact the airport for more information on possible shuttle services and costs. Remember to get and save your receipts.
Taxi Service: Average costs for a taxi from John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia Airports to Fort Hamilton is $40 to $65. Typically, taxis do not provide receipts. If the cost is under $75, finance does not require a receipt. Ensure that you record the transaction so that you can claim it as a travel expense.
Emergency Travel Assistance: If you require emergency financial travel assistance, contact the Red Cross Travel Assistance at 1-877-272-7337. Additionally, Military OneSource can be contacted at 1-800-342-9647.
For additional information, requesting a leave extension, or reporting a change in your arrival date, contact your respective unit personnel office for assistance.
All in-processing Soldiers must sign in at their respective unit personnel office. A copy of DA Form 31(Leave), assignment orders and/or amendments, health and dental records, and Military Personnel Record Jacket (if applicable) must be in your possession. Be prepared to fill out information sheets pertaining to DD Form 93 and SGLI updates and medical pre-screening forms, to expedite your in-processing at Fort Hamilton.

Soldiers and their Family members should attend a Newcomers' Orientation held every last Thursday of the month at the Fort Hamilton Army Community Service in Building 137 C Poly Place 1st Floor Please contact the ACS Relocation Readiness Program Manager at 718-630-4754 to sign up.
Civilian In-Processing Procedures
Department of the Army Civilians (Appropriated/Non-Appropriated) should report to the Civilian Personnel Office, located on the 2nd floor of Building 114, telephone (718) 630-4031/4734. You will be provided with an in-processing checklist and information about in-processing requirements.
